Polish Language Translation

With an estimated population in the UK approaching 750,000 people, the Polish community is rapidly integrating itself into Britain. For many Poles moving to the UK is a smooth process and very quickly they are setting up businesses and becoming part of the workforce.

As the population increases the need for Polish translation, both in written form and face-to-face, is becoming an essential area to look at for businesses and communities across the UK. With such a shift in the migrant population it pays dividends to be prepared for welcoming potential new staff from outside of the UK. Even such a simple thing as providing company documents in a person's native language can help them feel welcome.

History Of Poland And The Polish Language

As well as translating polish for workers it is a good idea to know more about the history of the country, its people and their heritage. It is very hard to discuss the history of Poland without mentioning 1st September 1939. As the German's stormed into the country in an action that began WWII the Polish people fought bravely, waiting for support from the UK and France that unfortunately never came. But, even after the invasion the poles where a valuable part of the war effort, taking part in many key battles in Europe, breaking the first enigma code and capturing many parts of the V1 and V2 rockets.

During the following years under a communist regime the Polish people rebuilt their country after the ravages of war. For nearly 50 years a communist government ran the country until eventually after roundtable discussions between the weakening government and the non-communist trade union movement (Solidarity or Solidarność in Polish) led to semi-free elections in 1989. By the end of the year a new coalition government was in place and the leader of Solidarity, Lech Wałęsa, was elected President of Poland.

The origins of the Polish language, like most languages in the European region, start with Indo-European. As people diversified the language started to branch out as each individual region developed its own dialect. And the more common languages that we know nowadays started to form. Eastern European languages are part of the Balto-Slavic branch and Polish is specifically derived from the West Slavic. As Poland started to adopt Roman Catholicism as the main religion of the country then the influence of Latin started to creep into the language and led to what we now regard as Polish.
